Bathroom

One of the perks of buying a new built is that the master bedroom almost always comes with a good-sized ensuite. Ours is no exception with pretty decent square footage to work with. One of the downsides of a new house is that the construction is almost always mainstream with mass appeal. Ours is no exception either. To help you picture it, this was the BEFORE of our master bathroom -- just like every other bathroom you've set your foot into, right? If you removed those framed arts from the wall and had showed me these pictures, I probably couldn't even tell it was once my bathroom!

The BEFORE

Hah. Don't you just love a long and masculine shaker vanity in Espresso stain with one side mounted to the wall?

Just over two years into our new house, I finally decided it was time to part with the old for something that reflects what we really like. After a few iterations, I settled on this design plan. Btw, since I get this question quite a bit, I thought I would address it here. I don't use any fancy moodboard or design plan software, but rather the good 'ol Photoshop for all my design plans. I love this exercise as it helps me visualize the outcome and plan all the resources. I pretty much followed this plan to the T.

We hired the same contractor friend who also finished our basement to renovate our master bath. They gave the room a clean slate on the first day by gutting everything in it.

Day 6: What better way to add some classic appeal to a new bathroom by tiling a Basketweave rug on the floor?

Day 8: And how about some wainscoting to top it up?

After two weeks of camping out of a guest bedroom, we finally reclaimed our master ensuite. I love that I was able to finish the room with whole bunch of my favourite elements: the grey/blue, the white, the sparkly, and a touch of warmth.

The AFTER

I've already started to design another bathroom we have on the second floor. Stay tuned for the design plans.
